Variety description

The variety is of medieval origin and was long confused with other local varieties, such as Gaglioppo or Magliocco dolce, from which it has been definitively distinguished genetically. The plant is characterized by medium-sized, conical, moderately dense bunches and medium-sized berries with thick skin covered in bloom.

A late-ripening wine grape variety, harvested at the end of October or the beginning of November. The grapes are relatively resistant to diseases but sensitive to prolonged drought. The resulting wines possess deep color, pronounced tannins, and high aging potential; they are often used in blends or as a base for DOC category wines.
