Gaglioppo is an ancient wine grape variety, a descendant of Sangiovese and Mantonico bianco. It is a late-ripening variety, resistant to dry conditions but sensitive to overheating, which is why it is often grown at higher elevations. Wines made from it are characterized by full body, high alcohol content, velvety tannins, and notes of red fruits, cherry, spices, and tobacco.
The Magliocco group of varieties includes independent varieties such as Magliocco Canino and Magliocco dolce. Magliocco Canino is characterized by long bunches with ovoid berries and resistance to diseases, while being sensitive to drought. Magliocco dolce has five-lobed leaves and dense cylindrical bunches, producing structured and harmonious wines.
