Variety description

10 August 2026

The name "Malaga" may refer to the Bulgarian technical variety "Plovdivska Malaga", obtained by crossing the varieties Misket cherven and Marsilsko ranozreyno. This is an early variety with a cylindroconical cluster weighing about 150 g, spherical blue-black berries and a sugar content of 22.6–25%.

Another example is the variety "Armalaga", obtained in 1902 by crossing Armlong and Malaga. This is a table-universal variety of late maturity with yellowish-green berries, possessing a fruity aroma and a characteristic aftertaste. The variety is distinguished by its resistance to fungal diseases.

There are also separate table varieties, such as Red Malaga (Molar) and Black Malaga (Malaga Noir), grown in Spain and South Africa. In a number of cases, the name is used as a synonym for other varieties, for example, Cinsaut.
