The variety belongs to the Black Sea ecological-geographical group (Proles pontica Negr.). Several biotypes differing in cluster shape and ripening uniformity have been identified within the population. It is also known under the name Plavina.
The leaf is medium-sized, three-lobed, with a deep open sinus and a short purple petiole. The clusters are very large, long, and branched. The berries are large, slightly oblong, and acquire a dark red or bluish hue upon ripening with a low content of coloring substances.
The vines have medium vigor and abundant yield, however, berry ripening occurs unevenly. The variety is a wine grape: historically it was used to soften tannic wines from the Refošk variety, and today it is used for the production of delicate fruity still wines, rosé wines, and sparkling wines using the Blanc de Noirs method.
