The variety belongs to the category of wine grape varieties. Being autochthonous (local) to Croatia, it is mentioned in a number of studies devoted to the study of ancient grape cultures of the region.

The name of the variety can cause ethnobotanical confusion, since in Croatian dialects the word "oskoruša" or "oskorušica" is also used to refer to the service tree (Sorbus domestica), however, in official registers, the variety is specifically designated as a grapevine.
