Variety description

The variety is of autochthonous origin from the Valpolicella zone and is genetically related to local varieties of the region. The vines possess good vigor, are characterized by late bud break and low yield. The plant is susceptible to grey mold.

The leaves of the variety are large and round. The clusters are dense, cylindrical in shape, and often winged. The small, round berries have an almost black color and contain large seeds.

The grapes are used primarily in blends with Corvina and Rondinella varieties for the production of Amarone, Recioto, and Valpolicella wines, as well as for creating varietal wines. The products are distinguished by fruity, floral, and spicy notes of taste and aroma.
