Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is considered autochthonous to Liguria, with its cultivation in the Pornassio area documented since the beginning of the XIV century. The crop is adapted to "heroic viticulture" on terraces of steep mountain slopes at an altitude of 400 to 800 meters above sea level with stony soils and diurnal temperature fluctuations.

The plant has medium-long, loose, pyramidal bunches. The berries are medium-sized, rounded, dark blue in color, and protected by a thick skin and waxy bloom. The ripening period is longer than that of Dolcetto; harvest is usually carried out in the second ten-day period of October.

Wines from this variety are characterized by a bright ruby color and aromas of cherry, blackberry, currant, and violet. They possess softer tannins and higher acidity compared to Dolcetto, as well as aging potential.
