Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is the result of breeding work at the Geilweilerhof center. Genetically, it is a derivative of the Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, and Silvaner varieties and was also used in the breeding of the Orion variety. It is known by the synonyms Geilweilerhof 33-13-113 and Optima.

The plant is early-maturing and characterized by late bud break, which protects it from spring frosts. The variety is able to adapt to poor soils while maintaining a high level of sugar accumulation. The grapes are used in the production of wines that may exhibit aromas of pear and lime blossom, while the variety is characterized by low acidity.

Currently, the variety is grown in small volumes, as its popularity in German regions such as Rheinhessen and Mosel has declined since the 1990s due to changing market priorities in the winemaking industry.
