The variety is characterized by medium vigor and weak lateral shoot formation. Leaves are medium-sized, three- or five-lobed, slightly dissected, with a closed petiole sinus. Clusters are medium-sized (140–230 g), conical in shape, and of varying density. Berries are round, yellow-green in color, and covered with a thin but firm skin.
The plant possesses frost resistance down to –22...–24 °C and resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, however, it is sensitive to spring frosts and prone to grey mold infection. Potential issues include flower drop and the manifestation of chlorosis in soils with excess lime.
Ortega grape variety is intended primarily for winemaking, but can also be used as a table grape. The variety is capable of accumulating a large amount of sugar, which allows for the production of full-bodied wines with muscat tones and aromas of peach, acacia, apricot, and honey.
