The variety is autochthonous to the Touraine, Loir-et-Cher regions. Genetically, the variety is considered a descendant of Gouais blanc. It is used primarily for the production of dry white wines, often in blends with Chenin Blanc, helping to balance acidity and add fruit and floral notes.
Ampelographic characteristics include small clusters, red shoot internodes, and young leaves with a yellowish tint, bronze spots, and dense pubescence on the underside. The flower of the variety is of the female type.
Wines from this variety possess good acidity, light to medium structure, mineral nuances, and notes of white fruits, and upon aging, acquire aromas of pastry. The name of the variety is not associated with the city of Arbois in the Jura region.
