The variety is native to the Basque Country; its genetic origin is linked to Cabernet Franc. Clusters are medium-sized, cylindro-conical, compact or medium-compact. Berries are black, small to medium-sized, covered with a thick bloom. Leaves are morphologically similar to those of Cabernet Franc.
The plant has moderate growth vigor and average or below-average yield. The variety is susceptible to powdery mildew and at risk of damage from late spring frosts. Wines are characterized by high acidity, soft tannins, and medium alcohol content, featuring a expressive fruity aroma with herbaceous and earthy notes.
