Under the name Parrel, different wine grape varieties are often hidden in the regions of Spain and Portugal. The most likely candidates are Parraleta and Trepat; therefore, when this name is mentioned, clarification of the biological object is required.
Parraleta is a red wine grape variety of medium to medium-late maturity with a hermaphroditic flower and dense bunches. The variety is characterized by high berry acidity, susceptibility to fungal diseases and frost, and a vulnerability to Botrytis infection.
Trepat is a local red variety from northeastern Spain, ripening late. It is used in winemaking primarily for the production of sparkling wines and rosé wines, while being distinguished by limited resistance to diseases, in particular leaf spot.
