The variety is a vigorous, strong-growing plant with an upright or semi-upright habit. It belongs to the mid-season or mid-late varieties, ripening three weeks after the Chasselas variety. It has a high yield, requiring crop thinning for quality vine ripening.

Bunches are small or medium-sized, dense, and cylindrical in shape. Berries are dark blue, small or medium, round or slightly elliptical, and covered with a thick skin with a waxy bloom. The variety is characterized by high resistance to berry drop, but is susceptible to downy mildew, anthracnose, gray mold, and frost.

The grape is used in winemaking. The resulting wines are often characterized as low-alcohol, with a light herbaceous tint. The variety is known for a large number of synonyms, which testifies to its long history of cultivation.
