The variety has ancient origins and is presumed to come from the Somontano region in Spain. It is genetically identical to the varieties Carcajolo Noir, Carenisca, Salceño Negro, and Tinta Caiada. The plant has moderate growth vigor and a hermaphroditic flower. The leaf is rounded, five-lobed, with dense pubescence on the underside.
Clusters range from medium to small, dense or very dense, which often leads to berry deformation. Berries are medium-sized, oval-shaped, dark blue in color with a thick waxy bloom and juicy pulp. The variety is not resistant to fungal diseases and frost.
A wine variety for the production of wines distinguished by high acidity, saturated color, and significant tannin content. The flavor profile of the wine includes notes of dark berries, plum, cherry, earthy undertones, and spices. Currently, the variety is considered rare due to a reduction in cultivation areas.
