The variety is the result of a natural cross between the Hebén variety and an unknown pollinator. Historically, the variety was widely cultivated in the Jerez region until the end of the 19th century, and in 2021 it was once again authorized for the production of DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry wines.
The grapes belong to the late ripening group and have the ability to retain acidity in hot climate conditions. The variety demonstrates general resistance to adverse environmental conditions.
It is used primarily for the production of dry wines and sherry, often in blends to provide them with structure. The flavor characteristics of the wines include notes of quince, white fruits, and citrus, with an overall neutral taste.
