The variety is characterized by early bud burst, which makes it vulnerable to spring frosts. The vine vigor is medium or below medium. The clusters are small, compact, and cylindrical or cylindro-conical in shape. The berries are small or medium, round or ellipsoidal, with a thick skin ranging from greenish-yellow to golden in color.
Petit Meslier is prone to flower abortion (coulure) and susceptibility to grey mold. The variety is used for the production of high-quality white wines, primarily sparkling, distinguished by high acidity, aging potential, and aromatics with notes of green apples, citrus, and floral hints.
