The variety is autochthonous to the region on the border of Slovenia and northeastern Italy. Genetically, it is the result of a natural cross between an unknown variety and Gouais blanc. The vine has medium vigor; leaves are medium or large, three-lobed or entire, with no pubescence on the underside.
Clusters are small or medium, often cylindrical, ranging from loose to dense. Berries are medium, round or slightly oval, with thin yellow-golden skin. The yield of the variety is stable and medium. The crop is well adapted to calcareous and stony soils of hilly terrain and is resistant to heat, during which it maintains its acidity.
The variety is sensitive to fungal diseases and susceptible to grey mold. It is used to create dry, sparkling, and orange wines. The aroma of the finished beverages is dominated by notes of apples, pears, citrus fruits, and wildflowers; with prolonged maceration, shades of nuts and dried fruits may appear.
