The variety has a number of synonyms, including Cipro, Muškat ruža Porečki, Muškat ruža omiški, Moscato rosa, Rosenmuskateller blauer, and Rdeči muškat. The exact origin of the variety has not been established; there are versions regarding its Greek or French roots.
The plant is characterized by a pronounced floral aroma reminiscent of the scent of roses. A high sugar content is recorded in mature clusters, which contributes to an increase in the alcohol level in finished dry wines.
