The Cipro variety is considered old and adapted to the Slovenian Istria region. There are various hypotheses regarding its origin, including a connection to Greek, Dalmatian, or French varieties, as well as an assumption of it being a mutation of Muscat à Petits Grains.

The grapes are characterized by high sugar content, and they are used primarily to produce dessert, celebratory wines possessing a characteristic aroma with notes of roses. In agronomic practice, the variety is grown on SO4 rootstock using a single Guyot training system.

In the official national register of varieties of Slovenia, the variety is registered under the name Cipro, and Rdeči muškat is listed as one of its synonyms.
