The variety is a natural hybrid of «Heunisch weiss» and an unknown variety, historically known since the 16th century. The vine has moderate vigor and is prone to forming a large number of lateral shoots. The leaf is rounded, five-lobed, with very weak pubescence or none at all.

Bunches are conical in shape, often with a wing, dense. Berries are medium-sized, round or slightly oval, dark blue in color with a waxy bloom and thin skin. The variety is characterized by good frost resistance, but is susceptible to fungal diseases, including downy mildew, powdery mildew, and gray mold.

Wine grape variety intended for the production of wines with aromas of cherry, wild berries, and characteristic smoky notes. It has many synonyms, such as «Blaue Frankentraube», «Blauer Henglìng» and «Süssrot».
