Trnjak is an ancient autochthonous variety, historically cultivated in the border regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. It is a wine variety often used for the pollination of the Blatina variety, which has a functionally female flower type.

The variety belongs to the mid-late or late ripening group. Bunches are medium-sized and cylindrical or conical in shape; berries are round, dark blue in color with thick skin. Shoots are characterized by a chaotic growth pattern, which requires a specific approach to vine training.

The plant has good drought tolerance and demonstrates stable but moderate yields. Wines from this variety are characterized by a deep ruby color, high tannin levels, good acidity, and aging potential, including in oak barrels.
