The variety belongs to the mid-late maturity group and is characterized by vigorous bush growth with abundant lateral shoot formation. The leaf is large, five-lobed, deeply dissected, with bristly pubescence on the underside and a closed petiolar sinus. The cluster is dense, conical or cylindrical-conical in shape. The berries are dark blue, medium to large in size, round, with thick skin and juicy flesh.
Trincadeira prefers a dry and hot climate, as it is highly susceptible to grey mold and powdery mildew under high humidity. Wines produced from this variety possess a deep color, pronounced tannin levels, and good acidity. The aromatic profile is dominated by notes of dark berries, spices, and earthy and herbaceous undertones.
