Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is autochthonous to France, presumably from Burgundy. It is genetically related to Duras and Petit Verdot. It has color mutations: white Tressot blanc and variegated Tressot panaché. The variety is often mistakenly confused with the Trousseau variety.

The plant is of medium vigor, requiring long pruning and trellis training. The leaf is pentagonal, five-lobed, deeply dissected, with arachnoid pubescence on the underside. The flower is hermaphroditic. The bunches are cylindro-conical, often winged, and compact. The berries are small, round, with thin skin.

The variety is not resistant to frost, downy mildew, and is particularly susceptible to powdery mildew. Poor affinity with rootstocks is noted. It is intended exclusively for winemaking, producing tannic and alcoholic wines with high acidity.
