Diseases
Agrostis stolonifera L.
A disease caused by the fungus Microdochium nivale that affects creeping bentgrass under cool and wet weather conditions. It is characterized by the appearance of water-soaked spots that can enlarge and develop a gray hue.
In the reference 10 varieties crop Creeping bentgrass, where this is mentioned in the description.
The disease, known as Fusarium patch, develops primarily during periods of slowed turfgrass growth, excessive thatch accumulation, or imbalanced mineral nutrition. The pathogen is most active under high humidity, causing the appearance of spots approximately 5 cm in diameter, which over time change color from orange-brown to dark brown and pale gray.
Under high humidity, a whitish or pinkish mycelium forms within the affected areas. On low-mown turf, typical for golf courses, a characteristic ring often forms at the margins of the affected patches, known as a smoke ring. The resistance of creeping bentgrass to this pathogen is quantitative and polygenic in nature, with no clear association with specific resistance genes.
