Medicago sativa L.
An infectious disease of alfalfa caused by a complex of fungi of the genus Fusarium, affecting the root system and vascular bundles, leading to wilting and plant death.

The disease is incited by a complex of up to 25 fungal species, among which Fusarium oxysporum is dominant, including the specialized form F. oxysporum f. sp. medicaginis, as well as F. acuminatum, F. solani, and others. The disease affects the taproot and root crown, causing browning of the vascular bundles, which disrupts the transport of water and nutrients.
External symptoms manifest as yellowing of the leaves, wilting of the shoot tips, and stunted plant growth. Under high humidity conditions, a white fluffy mycelium with characteristic pale pink or yellowish sporodochia forms on the lower parts of the stems. Alfalfa resistance to this complex of pathogens is a quantitative trait, evaluated through a disease severity index during germplasm screening.
