Fusarium wilt of Solanum torvum

Solanum torvum Sw.

Solanum torvum possesses innate high resistance to Fusarium wilt and is used as a rootstock to protect other solanaceous crops from soil-borne pathogens.

In the reference 8 varieties crop Turkey berry, where this is mentioned in the description.

Solanum torvum is characterized by complex species-specific resistance to a wide range of soil-borne pathogens, including Fusarium oxysporum. Typical symptoms of infection, such as chlorosis, necrosis, or vascular wilt, are practically not observed in this species, which allows its roots to be used to increase the vitality of grafted eggplants and tomatoes.

The resistance mechanism is due to the innate characteristics of the plant and increased expression of NLR genes in the root system. Specific breeding markers for resistance, analogous to I-type or Fol genes in tomatoes, have not been described in the literature for Solanum torvum.
