Solanum torvum Sw.
Solanum torvum possesses complex field resistance to a wide range of root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne, based on a root 'impermeability' mechanism.
In the reference 14 varieties crop Turkey berry, where this is mentioned in the description.
The crop exhibits high resistance to the species Meloidogyne incognita, M. arenaria, M. javanica, M. luci, and M. enterolobii. At the same time, susceptibility to M. hapla is noted, as well as the ability of the A2-J pathotype of M. arenaria to overcome the plant's natural defenses.
The resistance mechanism consists of the accumulation of lignin and brown pigments in root tissues during an invasion attempt, which creates a physical barrier. At the molecular level, this is accompanied by the activation of DIR/DRR group genes, chitinases, and sesquiterpenoid synthesis enzymes, while the plant itself exerts a repellent effect on nematodes in the rhizosphere of neighboring crops.
