Growing Hibiscus syriacus in containers requires selecting compact forms, ensuring high-quality drainage, and protecting the root system from freezing in winter. The crop requires intense lighting, regular watering, and annual spring pruning for abundant flowering.

For long-term container maintenance, compact cultivars are preferred, as the plant tends to grow vigorously. An essential condition is the use of a well-drained substrate and the presence of drainage holes, while the use of water-retaining polymers is excluded due to the risk of root rot. In a restricted volume, Hibiscus can remain for 3–5 years, after which transplanting into a larger container or root system pruning is required.

Unlike field-grown plants, container specimens are more vulnerable to low temperatures; therefore, in regions with harsh winters, it is necessary to move the plants into frost-free areas. Agronomic practices also account for late spring leaf emergence and a high dependence on light: a light deficit critically reduces flowering intensity. To maintain decorative appeal and promote bud formation on current-year shoots, annual spring pruning of the shrub is necessary.
