The level of resistance is assessed based on the ability of a specific cultivar to withstand damage during controlled temperature reduction.
The index depends on the bud morphogenesis phase, reaching a maximum during the sporogenous tissue phase of the anther and decreasing sharply after the completion of meiosis. Due to a short dormancy period, the peach is susceptible to the risk of deacclimation during winter thaws, which makes trees vulnerable to late winter and early spring recurrent frosts.
