Variety traits
Prunus domestica L.
An agronomic indicator determining the ability of fruits to remain on the tree after ripening, which influences harvest timing, harvesting technology, and crop marketability.
In the reference 34 varieties crop European plum, where this is mentioned in the description.
The fruit drop of the European plum (*Prunus domestica*) is an important economic and biological trait that determines the choice of harvest strategy: the necessity for multiple picking passes or the possibility of an efficient single-pass harvest. High susceptibility to fruit drop in a cultivar leads to significant crop losses due to mechanical damage upon impact, which reduces the suitability of the fruits for long-term storage and transportation.
Evaluation of this trait in variety testing is carried out using an expert visual method, assigning scores or descriptive characteristics during the period of mass ripening. The agronomic significance of fruit drop is closely related to the type of pedicel abscission: cultivars with "wet" abscission are genetically more prone to dropping and have a shorter shelf life, which is taken into account when planning crop logistics.
