The plants represent a group of folk selection, adapted to the climate of the valleys of the Cuneo province. The trees are characterized by high endurance and low maintenance, not requiring specific pruning or regular chemical treatments, which is why they were historically used for the cultivation of inaccessible areas.
The fruits are small in size, ranging in color from reddish-purple to yellowish, and are covered with a waxy bloom. The flesh is reddish-yellow and is characterized by a high sugar content. The ripening period varies from mid-June to mid-August depending on the ecotype. Ripe fruits are prone to easy shedding.
Varieties of this group have high winter hardiness. Since RAMASSIN is a collective name for a number of local populations, specific morphological indicators and the level of disease resistance may vary between different ecotypes.
