The variety is traditional to the Roero geographical area and belongs to the category of local varieties preserved through folk selection. It is traditionally used both for fresh consumption and for processing and canning.
The fruits are round or oval in shape with purple skin and yellow flesh. The soluble solids content is approximately 13.5 °Brix. A characteristic feature is the natural dropping of fruits upon reaching full physiological maturity, which necessitates the use of nets during harvest.
