Ramassin represents a collection of traditional plum forms adapted to the conditions of southwestern Piedmont. The trees are distinguished by vigorous growth, high endurance, and adaptability to challenging soils, which allows them to be grown at altitudes of up to 1200 meters at temperatures down to -25 °C without the need for chemical treatments.
The fruits are small, with a weight of 10–15 g, have an oval shape, and a color ranging from amber-yellow to dark purple. The skin is covered with a thick waxy bloom, and the light yellow flesh possesses pronounced sweetness and aroma, separating easily from the pit. Upon ripening, the fruits are prone to self-shedding.
The varieties of the group are used fresh, as well as for the production of jams, syrups, and alcoholic beverages. Due to the delicate consistency of the flesh, the fruits have a short shelf life and low transportability.
