Trifolium repens L.
The productivity of white clover (Trifolium repens) is evaluated based on green mass and dry matter yield for forage purposes, as well as seed yield, which depends on inflorescence structure and growing conditions.
In the reference 69 varieties crop White clover, where this is mentioned in the description.
Forage productivity of white clover is measured by green forage mass in t/ha and dry matter yield, with additional consideration given to digestible protein content and metabolizable energy. Green mass yields in variety trials range from 16.4 t/ha to 65.4 t/ha, with dry matter yield averaging approximately 5.9 t/ha. Biometrically, productivity is linked to the length of leaf petioles and peduncles, as well as the crop's ability to spread via stolons.
Seed productivity is determined by the number of flower heads per unit area, the number of seeds per head, and their 1000-seed weight. This indicator is characterized by instability: under standard conditions, it often does not exceed 50 kg/ha, although it can reach 149–409 kg/ha when agronomic practices are optimized. Competition for assimilates between vegetative shoots and reproductive organs is the key factor limiting the realization of seed potential.
