Variety traits
Trifolium repens L.
An indicator of productivity and feed quality of white clover, expressed as a percentage of fresh weight or tons per hectare. It serves as a basis for assessing pasture energy efficiency, digestibility, and calculating crude protein concentration.
In the reference 25 varieties crop White clover, where this is mentioned in the description.
To assess the productivity of white clover under field conditions, a gravimetric method is used, in which plant samples are dried at 105°C for 8 hours until a constant weight is reached. In agronomic research, this indicator is key for calculating yield in t/ha, which allows eliminating the influence of green mass moisture fluctuations when comparing different cultivars and grass mixtures.
Dry matter content serves as an essential basis for determining the nutritional value of feed, including the calculation of organic matter digestibility and relative feed value. White clover is characterized by a high concentration of crude protein, which ranges from 17.5% to 21.6% in dry matter.
When studying the nitrogen-fixing ability of the crop, the accumulation of stubble and root residues is also measured in terms of dry matter. Breeding work with the species is aimed at increasing the total dry mass yield, although the dry matter content itself is not considered a narrow varietal marker.
