Variety traits
Vitis L.
The ability of grape clusters to maintain their integrity and marketability during transportation, determined by the strength of berry attachment to the pedicel and their resistance to crushing.
In the reference 24 varieties crop Grapevine, where this is mentioned in the description.
The transportability of table varieties is evaluated through field trials or laboratory methods that measure the mechanical properties of the berries. High transportability is achieved when the force required to detach a berry from the pedicel exceeds 300 g and the resistance to crushing is over 1500 g, while values below 100 g and 700 g, respectively, indicate low resistance to mechanical impact.
To improve this metric, agronomic practices include 'green operations' and the adjustment of mineral nutrition with an emphasis on phosphorus, potassium, boron, manganese, vanadium, and calcium. A mandatory requirement is to cease irrigation 30 days before harvest, as well as pre-drying the clusters in the shade to reduce the risk of damage during the subsequent packaging and transportation process.
