The forage productivity of Timothy grass is measured in centners or tons per hectare. Average green mass yields range from 200–225 c/ha. Hay yield depends on the type of land: from 40–45 c/ha on dry meadows to 60–80 c/ha on reclaimed peatlands, while for highly productive stands, values can reach 400–500 c/ha.
Seed productivity of the crop under intensive agronomic practices reaches 10 c/ha; however, under experimental conditions, actual harvests more often vary in the range of 4.8–5.3 c/ha. Yield is characterized by year-to-year dynamics, reaching a maximum in the 2nd–4th year of use, after which the thinning of the stand leads to a gradual decline.
Productivity indicators are significantly influenced by external factors and cultivation technology. The crop is extremely sensitive to moisture availability and the level of field weed infestation, which can reduce seed yield by more than 30%. The use of grass mixtures and the application of specialized sowing patterns are considered as methods for increasing total yield.
