To evaluate the productivity of sour cherry, yield indicators per tree and per unit area are used, as well as a yield index that takes into account the volume or projection area of the crown. The potential productivity of cultivars varies: for cultivars like Shokoladnitsa, it is 77.9–96.6 c/ha, for the Nesvizhskaya cultivar average figures reach 15.7 t/ha, and for Turgenevka — over 20 kg per tree.
The realization of yield potential is determined by the fruiting type: bush-type forms produce a crop on annual growth, while tree-type forms primarily on bouquet branches. An important factor is the self-compatibility of the cultivar; for self-incompatible forms, the selection of pollinators can increase fruit harvest by up to 30%. Productivity also critically depends on the preservation of the leaf apparatus, the infestation of which by coccomycosis or pests leads to a sharp decrease in yield.
