Trees of this variety are not long-lived. When grafted onto sour cherry, the tree becomes exhausted and dies after 12–15 years; therefore, specimens are most long-lived when Prunus mahaleb is used as a rootstock. Coming into bearing when grafted onto sweet cherry occurs later, but mature trees are characterized by abundant yields.
The fruits have juicy flesh with a spicy, refreshing, sour taste. They are suitable for various types of culinary processing and canning. At full maturity, the fruits handle transport poorly due to a tendency to drop from the peduncle.
