The name Ostheimska is a collective term for a group of cherries selected from seedlings or root suckers, therefore various clones may be covered by it. The original forms were introduced to Germany in the early 18th century and became widespread in the area of the town of Ostheim.
Varieties of this group are characterized by an early ripening period. The fruits are suitable for the production of juices, jams, and canning. Plants possess adaptability, however, individual types may be susceptible to fungal diseases, such as Blumeriella jaapii.
This variety was used as a rootstock and served as the basis for creating breeding hybrids, including Morellenfeuer and Minister Podbielski. Due to the heterogeneity of the group, when choosing seedlings, one should specify the particular clone possessing predictable characteristics.
