The variety belongs to the Morello group, which determines the dark red, almost black color of the fruits and the presence of intensely colored juice. The fruits have a round or oval heart shape.
The variety is characterized by high resistance to infection by the fungus Monilinia fructicola in both the green and ripe stages of the fruit. Historically, the variety was used for processing due to its pronounced acidity; today it is more often used as genetic material for breeding.
