Pea Germination

Pisum sativum L.

Pea germination is the percentage of normally germinated seeds that determines plant stand density and the potential crop yield. This indicator serves as the basis for calculating seeding rates and assessing seed quality.

In the reference 3 varieties crop Pea, where this is mentioned in the description.

Strict regulatory requirements for sowing quality have been established for pea seeds: germination for first-class seeds must be at least 95%, and for second-class seeds, it must be at least 90%. Laboratory determination of this indicator is carried out in accordance with GOST 12038-84 by germinating four samples of 100 seeds each on a substrate under established temperature regimes.

Field emergence directly correlates with the number of productive stems per hectare; therefore, precise knowledge of this parameter allows for the optimization of seeding rates. Insufficient germination leads to sparse crop stands and weed infestation, while an unjustified increase in seeding rates provokes lodging, light deficiency, and increased susceptibility to diseases. When planning agricultural practices, it is important to consider the risk of reduced field emergence due to high concentrations of soil salts from starter fertilizers.
