Variety traits
Triticum aestivum L.
The ability of common wheat varieties to maintain high productivity and viability under water deficit and elevated temperatures. It is assessed through yield stability indices, morphophysiological markers, and laboratory osmotic testing.
In the reference 46 varieties crop Bread wheat, where this is mentioned in the description.
The evaluation of drought resistance in common wheat is based on field and laboratory methods. Under field conditions, morphophysiological markers are taken into account, such as the intensity of leaf rolling, the degree of waxy bloom, flag leaf area, and the 'stay-green' effect, as well as the turgorimetric method of leaf water retention. In osmotic laboratory seed testing, a sucrose concentration is used that creates a pressure of 16–18 atm.
Results are expressed through stress tolerance indices (TOL, YSI, STI) or as percentages of germination and productivity relative to the control. In breeding practice, samples with a score of 70% or higher are considered resistant. In scoring, a difference of 2 points between varieties is considered significant. Under stress, resistant forms demonstrate a smaller decrease in 1000-kernel weight, productive tiller density, and grain weight per spike.
