The variety was developed from 156 vegetatively propagated accessions. It is intended for professional use on fairways and tees, as well as for overseeding on bermudagrass areas. Compared to the Penncross variety, it has a denser growth type and finer leaf structure.
The plant possesses resistance to dollar spot and brown patch. The variety is adapted to various soil conditions, including sandy and drained clay soils, with moderate nitrogen fertilizer requirements. The optimal mowing height is from 4.8 to 7.9 mm.
It belongs to the second generation of bentgrass varieties. There is an improved version of the variety called Penneagle II, developed to increase disease resistance. It requires intensive maintenance, including regular mowing, aeration, and monitoring of turfgrass condition.
