The shrub has a densely branched, spreading or cushion-shaped crown with drooping or arching branches. The height of an adult plant varies from 0.6–0.9 m to 1.2–1.5 m. Red-brown young shoots have short, hard thorns.
Small spatulate or lanceolate leaves are bright yellow in spring, turn lemon-green in summer, and acquire orange or red shades in autumn. Flowering occurs in April-June with small cream-white or yellow flowers, followed by the formation of bright red fruits.
The variety has high winter hardiness (down to -26…-30°C), is resistant to urban conditions, and tolerates pruning well. The plant develops best in the sun; in deep shade, the foliage may turn green.
