The plant is slow-growing; it reaches a height of 0.5–0.6 m in 10 years, and the maximum height of a mature shrub is 0.5 to 1 m. The variety is also known by the synonym «Maja».
Flowering occurs in May with small yellow flowers, sometimes with a reddish tint. Small red fruits ripen in August–September, which may remain on the shrub during the winter period.
The variety is frost-hardy (zone 5a, down to -35 °C) and resistant to urban conditions and drought. It is undemanding to soils, tolerates pruning well, and displays the brightest foliage color in sunny areas.
