The shrub is characterized by an upright, columnar growth habit with shoots directed vertically upward. The height of an adult plant ranges from 1 to 1.5–2 meters with a width of about 0.6 meters. The dark red shoots are equipped with small, single thorns.
The leaves are large, spatulate, with smooth margins. In May, small yellowish flowers appear, gathered in clusters. Red oblong berries ripen in late summer.
The plant is light-loving and requires open sunny areas to maintain the intense coloration of the foliage. The variety is winter-hardy, resistant to urban environmental conditions, and tolerates pruning well. It prefers moderately moist, well-drained substrates ranging from slightly acidic to neutral.
