The tree reaches a height of 6 to 10 meters and can be trained as a standard tree or with a spindle-shaped crown. The variety is self-incompatible and requires cross-pollination, for which pollinator varieties such as H2 or Bouche de Bétizac are recommended.

The light brown fruits ripen after the end of summer and are suitable for storage for one to two months. The recommended planting altitude is from 300 to 700 meters above sea level. The variety is susceptible to typical chestnut diseases, including chestnut blight, ink disease and the oriental chestnut gall wasp.

The name Südtiroler Gelbe may refer to a group of similar local genotypes, as this is a traditional ecotype and not the result of modern breeding work to develop a single regulated clone.
