The variety is the result of centuries of folk selection and vegetative propagation of the best local forms in Andalusia, Spain. The trees are characterized by a high potential height, although their parameters in cultivation depend on the pruning and training methods adopted in local chestnut groves.

The fruits of this variety are distinguished by their large size and marketability. The plant has a certain susceptibility to damage by carpophagous insects. The variety is considered a population, so local forms with genetic differences, united by an early ripening period, may be hidden under the common name.
