The Trigueira variety is included among the chestnuts certified under the Terra Fria protected designation of origin. The fruits are intended for food production and consumption in fresh or thermally processed form.

The fruits are characterized by a starch content of about 43 g per 100 g of dry matter and a low fat content of about 3 g per 100 g of dry matter. They contain minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium, as well as fiber.

The trees of the variety demonstrate a high average growth rate. Fruit production is conducted with minimal use of external inputs, as phytosanitary treatments are not a common practice for this crop.
